Anna Grenzner is a cellist specialized in contemporary music and improviser, who expands the boundaries of her music-making towards interdisciplinary interaction with body movement, performance and thought.
Anna is cellist and artistic co-director of the Graz-based LaKT Ensemble, dedicated to musical-choreographic research and creation. Alongside her development of solo performances (such as the ongoing “a body to the world” in 2025) is active as ensemble musician in groups such as Ensemble Zetifluss, Ensemble Coincidence, LaKT or the Styrian Improvisers Orchestra. Further collaborations include those with Schallfeld Ensemble as a guest player. She studied the master program Performance Practice in Contemporary Music in Graz under the tuition of Klangforum Wien, the Bachelor in the Conservatori del Liceu Barcelona and the Certificate in Advanced Studies “Creation and scenario in Music” at the ZHdK. In October 2025 she starts a doctoral program in artistic research at the Anton Bruckner University in Linz.
She obtained a recognition price at the sounding visions award #2 in Vienna with the solo performance “a body to the world” and was a finalist in the Premi Extraordinari del Liceu (2017). In 2023 she received the “Startstipendium für Musik” scholarship from the Austrian Ministry of Culture. Anna has performed at festivals such as Kultursommer Wien, Musikprotokoll (Graz), Festival Ensems (Valencia), Amsterdam Cello Biennale or Festival Resis (A Coruña) as a cellist and as improviser. She has also participated in festivals and academies for contemporary music such as Klangspuren Schwaz (Austria), Impuls Festival (Graz, Austria), Festival Mixtur (Barcelona, Spain) or Ensemble-Akademie Freiburg (Germany). Anna has worked with composers such as Rebecca Saunders, Brian Ferneyhough, Beat Furrer, Franck Bedrossian or Gerd Kühr; with conductors such as Peter Rundel or Bas Wiegers; and with performers from Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Modern or Ensemble Recherche. In the field of improvisation she has worked with Elisabeth Harnik, Jöelle Leandre or Paul Abbott a.o.
Anna completed a Bachelor in Physics at the University of Barcelona in 2016.
